AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Newly released data from the 2020 Census shows Austin's population grew nearly 22 percent over the last 10 years.

Austin's 2020 population, according to the data, is 961,855, up from 790,390 in 2010 - a gain of 21.7%. It's second only to Fort Worth, which saw the most growth of any city in the state, adding nearly 24% to its population over the last decade.

According to the data, Austin remains the 11th largest city in the country, just shy of San Jose, Calif. All of the 10 largest cities are over the one million threshold, with San Jose clocking in at 1,013,000 residents.

Thursday's data release will set the stage for redistricting to begin across the country, with lawmakers ready to begin redrawing the political maps for all levels of government.

Growth across the state over the last 10 years will give Texas two additional seats in Congress.
