AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Amid growing frustrations from Austin residents who endured - and are still, in some cases, enduring - power outages following last week's winter storm, the Austin City Council will take up a review of City Manager Spencer Cronk's employment on Thursday.
Mayor Kirk Watson said he added the emergency item to the council agenda for Thursday. "The management of this situation and the lack of clear, timely and accurate communication has left our community in the dark," Watson wrote in a post on Twitter. "It is unacceptable."
In addition to Watson, council members Alison Alter, Chito Vela, and Vanessa Fuentes are co-sponsoring the item.
"While the members of the City Council answer to the people of Austin, the City Manager answers to us," Watson said.
In Austin's council-manager form of government, the city manager operates much like a CEO in private sector businesses, tasked with carrying out the legislative and policy objectives of the City Council.
Cronk has been with the City of Austin since 2017. Last year, he was given a $38,000 raise, raising his salary by 10% to $388,190 annually.
