AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Authorities are investigating a deadly crash on Interstate 35 just north of downtown Wednesday morning.
Austin Police say the crash happened around 2:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of IH-35 near 51st Street. A pickup crashed into the back of a semi-truck, becoming pinned underneath it.
According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the passenger of the pickup died at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital with critical life-threatening injuries.
A separate crash involving two other semi-trucks happened just south of the initial scene, causing additional slowdowns.
Police said the mainlanes were expected to remain closed through the morning rush hour as an investigation continued.
