AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Defense attorneys representing Austin Police officer Christopher Taylor rested their case Monday, pushing the highly-watched case one step closer to its conclusion.

Taylor is facing a first-degree felony murder charge for the April 2020 shooting of Michael Ramos in a South Austin apartment complex parking lot.

Closing arguments in the case are likely to begin as early as Tuesday morning, if the prosecution chooses not to bring any rebuttal witnesses.

One of the final witnesses called by the defense was David Gilden, a psychology professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Gilden's testimony focused on what Taylor may have perceived in the moments leading up to the shooting.

"When the car moves, what is the information that is available to Mr. Taylor in making his decision to shoot Mr. Ramos. That’s it," Gilden testified.

If convicted, Taylor faces up to 99 years in prison.
