AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Citing "anticipated increased staff and student absences at multiple campuses," Del Valle ISD officials said Thursday afternoon that they'll close the district completely on Friday, January 21.

The closure affects all DVISD schools and offices. The district expects to resume normal operations on Monday, January 24, with normal hours.

Del Valle joins Granger, Liberty Hill, Smithville, and Pflugerville ISDs, which have all closed at least one day this week.

District officials say that in addition to rising student and staff absences, the closure is also to prevent student exposure at bus stops Friday morning, with temperatures expected to be in the mid to upper 20s area wide.

The district also said it is increasing pay rates for substitute teachers. DVISD will hold a substitute job fair on Thursday, January 27, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Del Valle Opportunity Center at 5301 Ross Road.

More details can be found online at the district's website.
