AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Students in two Central Texas school districts will continue in remote learning through next week, following the MLK holiday.
Del Valle ISD announced Thursday that it will remain in 100% remote learning through Friday, January 22. The district switched to 100% remote learning on Wednesday of this week.
Austin ISD, which urged but did not require parents and students to switch to remote learning this week, will continue the same recommendation into next week.
Both districts made the move as COVID-19 cases in Travis County continue to surge, amidst concerns from local health officials about the potential spread of the virus among school-age children.
AISD Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Elizalde said preliminary results indicate this week's efforts to switch to remote learning have helped limit attendance on campus and allow for increased social distancing by those who must be served on campus.
Elizalde said any student that needs to be served by on-campus learning will have that option, throughout the remainder of the semester.
