AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Officials are still working to unpack what led to a deadly scene at a North Austin hospital emergency room Tuesday afternoon, where a vehicle crashed through an emergency room entrance.
Austin Police have identified the driver involved as 57-year old Michell Holloway, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. A police spokesperson said the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, but there are no indications that the crash was intentional, or that Holloway suffered from a medical episode.
A total of five people - three adults and two juveniles - were injured in the immediate crash. The two juveniles and one adult were transported to Dell Children's Medical Center; another adult was transported to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center; and the final adult was treated on the scene.
Hospital officials said Wednesday afternoon that five patients already receiving treatment at the emergency room when the crash happened were transported to other hospitals with the assistance of Austin-Travis County EMS.
Operations at the hospital were expected to be back to normal later Wednesday afternoon, hospital officials said. The hospital's emergency department has continued to accept walk-in patients, but had been diverting ambulance traffic to other facilities.
APD said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
