AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas' statewide electric grid operator is calling for voluntary conservation measures Sunday night as much of the state continues to deal with excessive heat and high demand on the state's electric resources.
ERCOT's voluntary call is in effect from 7 until 10 p.m. Sunday evening. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), ERCOT said "unexpected loss of thermal generation" was a contributing factor to the request.
“Voluntary conservation is a widely used industry tool that can help lower demand during a specific period of time, typically late afternoon and evening,” officials said.
The ERCOT grid has been setting new records in recent days. Saturday, the grid recorded an all-time weekend peak demand record, and earlier this month, the grid set its latest all-time peak demand record on Aug. 10.
