Events for Memorial Day weekend across Austin, Central Texas

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial beginning of the summer, but it's also a solemn holiday to honor, recognize, and remember the men and women who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Here is a rundown of ceremonies and events happening across Central Texas this weekend.

Bastrop: "Remembering Those Who Served" will be hosted by the Bastrop High School NJROTC, along with VFW Posts 2527, 6115, and 12104. It will take place Monday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery at 1311 Chestnut Street in Bastrop.

Cedar Park: A Memorial Day Celebration will be held at the Lakeline Oaks Retirement Community at 1905 South Lakeline Boulevard beginning at 3:30pm.

Lakeway: A community Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday morning at Church of the Resurrection of the Lord at 1718 Lohmans Crossing Road. The Lake Travis Honor Guard, Lakeway Sing Along, and others will participate.

Pflugerville: The annual celebration hosted by VFW Post 8787 will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at the Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, located at 14501 North IH-35. The ceremony will be in the Texas Liberty section in the northeast corner.

Round Rock: The Round Rock Veteran's Coalition and City of Round Rock will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony at the new Yonders Point Plaza, on the north side of Old Settlers Park at 3101 Aten Loop. A music prelude will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the program getting underway at 10 a.m.

San Marcos: The Hays County Veterans Memorial will host a ceremony honoring all Hays County veterans beginning at 10 a.m. The memorial is located at 450 East Hopkins.

Taylor: A Memorial Day Salute will take place at the Murphy Park Liberty Gardens at 1600 Veterans Drive, beginning at 10 a.m.
