Events honoring MLK across Austin, Central Texas

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A number of events are set to take place Monday across Central Texas to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Austin's 30th annual MLK Community March will get underway at 9 a.m. at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus. Following a short program, the march will head towards the south steps of the State Capitol for a rally, then to Huston-Tillotson University for more activities.

Leander's MLK Day March and Celebration will begin with a march from Camacho Elementary at 11 a.m., heading to Old Town Park for events including performances, dancers, musicians, choirs and spoken word artists.

In San Marcos, the annual MLK Walk and Celebration will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at the corner of LBJ and MLK at 9:30 a.m. A walk will then lead to the Hays County Courthouse square with a brief program, followed by a reception at the Dunbar Recreation Center.

Finally, in Elgin, a walk from Veterans Memorial Park will begin at 10 a.m. The walk, which will include a stop at the Elgin Black Icons mural, before ending at Booker T. Washington Elementary at 11 a.m.
