AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A fatal collision involving a vehicle and a scooter rider has shut down the northbound lanes of Mopac Expressway in central Austin early Wednesday morning.
Austin Police Department officers and Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the incident near the 4500 block of North Mopac just before 5:00 a.m. Upon arrival, medics pronounced the adult scooter rider dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle remained on site following the crash.
Due to the expansive size of the crash scene, northbound traffic was entirely blocked for several hours. The mainlanes reopened just after 10 a.m., according to APD.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
