AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin-area residents will have another source for COVID-19 testing when a new federally-funded testing site opens next week in east Austin.
The new site will begin operations at Austin ISD's Metz Elementary campus on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Local leaders including Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Travis County Judge Andy Brown, and U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett celebrated the site Friday morning.
"It is good to bring some good news that federal reinforcements are on the way and they'll be here at this site noon on Tuesday," said Doggett. "After that, they'll be here seven days a week, 9 to 9, every day."
The site will be operated by a third-party contractor, with online registrations for testing being accepted at www.INeedACovid19Test.com. Walk-ups will also be accepted, with results available online or by phone.
The testing site is expected to be open for three weeks initially, though that could be extended if demand for testing remains high.
