AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- After nearly four months of construction and detours, a newly rebuilt flyover connecting Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 183 will open to traffic Saturday morning.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation said the flyover between northbound I-35 and northbound U.S. 183 will open to traffic Saturday morning at 8 a.m., weather permitting.
Crews will temporarily close the northbound mainlanes of I-35 beginning at 11 p.m. Friday night so they can re-stripe the roadway ahead of Saturday morning's opening.
According to TxDOT, the previous flyover was too steep, which caused delays in traffic, particularly with large vehicles.
In addition to the re-opened flyover, a new bypass lane will also open on Monday, allowing drivers on the northbound I-35 frontage road to bypass the traffic signal at St. Johns Avenue, then either merging onto I-35 or returning to the frontage road ahead of the U.S. 183 intersection.
A fourth flyover connecting northbound U.S. 183 and northbound Interstate 35 will open later this fall.
