AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Two former Williamson County sheriff's deputies have been indicted by a Travis County grand jury for their roles in the death of Javier Ambler.

James Johnson and Zachary Camden are both facing second degree manslaughter charges for their roles in the death of Ambler, who died in WCSO custody following a pursuit on March 29, 2019.

Bail for both men has been set at $150,000, with conditions set including a prohibition on employment with law enforcement agencies or security companies.

"With these indictments, we have taken another critical step towards justice for the Ambler family and for our community," Travis County District Attorney José Garza said in a statement. "While we can never take away the pain of the Ambler family, the grand jury has sent a clear message that no one is above the law."

According to Garza, the grand jury also heard evidence related to Austin Police officer Michael Nissen's involvement in the incident, returning a no bill.

The charges against Johnson and Camden will be prosecuted by the Civil Rights Unit of the DA's office.

"Some will inevitably seek to undermine the judgement of the grand jury in their own self-interest," Garza said. "A grand jury is an independent group of representatives of the community, sworn in to uphold their duties, and a critical part of society that enables the public to assess the evidence and participate in the administration of justice. We thank the jury that rendered this decision for their service to justice."

A camera crew from the reality television series "Live PD" was also present for the encounter with Ambler.
