AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead inside a home that caught on fire Sunday night in Southeast Austin.
Officials say a 911 caller reported the blaze at 10:53 p.m. in the 9000 block of Meridian Oak Lane. That's just east of Interstate 35 and south of Slaughter Lane.
Crews were able to put the fire out quickly. When they searched the home, they found a man in his 30s with "obvious signs of trauma incompatible with life." He was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Austin Police say another man was inside the home when the blaze broke out. He is said to be speaking with investigators, and believe that he was the 911 caller.
Austin Fire arson investigators are working the scene as well.
If the man's death is ruled a homicide, it would be the city's 18th of the year. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call APD's Homicide tip line at 512-477-3588.
