LAKEWAY, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- A 17-year-old Lake Travis High School varsity football player died late Wednesday, two days after he suffered a medical emergency during a morning practice.
Lake Travis ISD officials confirmed the death of senior Odin Hensley Thursday morning.
Hensley suffered a medical emergency at about 8 a.m. Monday during the Cavaliers' morning football practice. He was flown by Travis County STAR Flight to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
LTISD officials remembered Hensley as a long-time student of the district, beginning at Lake Pointe Elementary School. Over the years, he grew into a dedicated two-sport athlete in football and wrestling.
“His teachers and coaches remember Odin as a kind, determined young man who was a valued teammate, classmate and friend,” the district said in a statement. “His presence touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed.”
Community members and peers gathered Wednesday evening for a vigil at Lake Hills Church. By Thursday morning, a GoFundMe campaign organized to support Hensley’s family had raised more than $145,000.
