KYLE, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Hays CISD officials announced Friday that the Lehman High School baseball season will proceed, reversing a previous decision to cancel the remainder of the year amid a "serious bullying" investigation involving potential criminal charges.

The district had initially called for the varsity and junior varsity teams to forfeit their remaining 2026 games, fearing that the number of players implicated in the probe would leave team rosters spread too thin to compete. However, following a meeting with parents on Friday, district leadership determined that enough eligible students remain to field a team.

"We agree that students not implicated in any potential wrongdoing should not be penalized when we can help it," said Hays CISD Chief Communication Officer Tim Savoy. "Because we have identified enough players not implicated to keep the baseball teams in business, we are glad to be able to do it."

The investigation, which is being led by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, centers on what Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright described as a "potentially serious pattern of bullying." The probe was triggered on April 7 when parents alerted campus administration and a school resource officer to the alleged behavior.

Disciplinary actions have already been significant. To date, ten students have been suspended and one staff member has been placed on administrative leave. District officials noted that a video of an incident served as a key piece of evidence, showing "clear violations" of student conduct and potentially the law.

"Nothing should diminish the seriousness of the behavior," Savoy said. "It’s horrible and those responsible will pay a significant price."

While the games that were scheduled for Friday remain canceled, the team’s final four games of the season will be played as scheduled over the next two weeks. The district confirmed a varsity team will definitely compete, while a junior varsity squad will be fielded if player numbers permit.
