Man stabbed to death early Saturday morning on 6th Street

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Authorities are investigating after a man was fatally stabbed in the 6th Street entertainment district in downtown Austin early Saturday morning.

Austin Police say they received a 911 call reporting a stabbing in the north alley of the 400 block of East 6th Street just after 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, they found 33-year old Michael Martin O'Brien with life-threatening injuries. O'Brien was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries at 10:20 a.m.

According to investigators and eyewitness interviews, police say an altercation broke out in the alley which led to the stabbing. A suspect description from the eyewitnesses describes a white male, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and a red baseball cap who fled the scene prior to police arrival.

This is the city's fourth homicide of 2022.
