AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A suspect accused of shooting a Bastrop County sheriff's deputy Sunday night has been arrested, officials aid Monday afternoon.

Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook said that Deputy Sawyer Wilson was shot twice in the chest and once in his right forearm. He was wearing a bulletproof vest, which Cook said likely saved his life, while the shot to his arm shattered his forearm. Wilson was said to be in stable condition Monday morning.

The suspect in the shooting, identified as 33-year old Michael Stark, was taken into custody Monday afternoon. According to Bastrop County officials, Stark has been arrested 25 times in the past by the agency.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night at the LBA Market off of State Highway 95, roughly six miles north of State Highway 71.

Resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Austin Police Department, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, and the La Grange Police Department were called in to help with the manhunt Sunday night into Monday morning.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reacted to the shooting in a statement. "Our hearts are with Deputy Sawyer Wilson as he recovers from injuries sustained while protecting his fellow Texans in Bastrop County," said Abbott. "Selfless heroes like Deputy Wilson put their lives at risk every day to serve their communities, and the State of Texas is ready to provide all resources necessary to bring the perpetrator to justice. I ask that all Texans join the First Lady and me in lifting up Deputy Wilson and his family in prayer as he begins his journey to recovery."
