AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after a series of crashes along the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 in south Austin early Saturday morning, officials said.
According to Austin Police, the first crash happened around 2:20 a.m. in the 3000-3500 block of South IH-35, which is near St. Edward's University. Austin-Travis County EMS says one adult patient died in that initial crash.
First responders then reported "multiple incidents" along the southbound lanes, stretching from Woodward Street to Riverside Drive.
Traffic on the mainlanes was detoured to the frontage road beginning at the Woodward Street exit.
Austin Police said the mainlanes re-opened shortly after 8 a.m.
