Fatal wreck

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The number of fatal crashes across Austin are on the rise, according to the latest information from Austin Police.

On Monday, APD released details on several recent crashes, including a fatal hit-and-run crash Sunday morning involving a pedestrian.

As of June 20, 55 people have died on Austin's roads this year, in 53 crashes. On the same date in 2020, 38 people had died in 36 crashes.

Among the victims identified Monday, police said 76-year old Stanley Frank Curran died following a hit-and-run crash in the 12200 block of South IH-35 at some point Sunday morning. Police said Curran was found by a security guard doing his rounds; while the 911 call came in just after 7:15 a.m., police said they don't know when Curran was struck.

Police said debris at the scene appears to be from a 2019-2021 silver Toyota Corolla that should have significant front-end damage.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-4278.
