AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after an auto-pedestrian crash early Thursday morning near Interstate 35 and State Highway 71 in south Austin.
Officials said the crash was reported around 2 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate.
Austin Police said it appeared that multiple vehicles struck the victim before crews were able to close down the scene.
The mainlanes of Interstate 35 remained closed for several hours, but re-opened just before 8 a.m.
Texas Department of Transportation officials said tolls were being waived on SH 45 SE and SH 130 for northbound travelers to ease the delays coming in from Hays County; that waiver would remain in place as long as the interstate remained closed.
