AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police are investigating after a man exchanged gunfire with officers on the city's northwest side Thursday morning.
APD Chief Lisa Davis said the incident began shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday morning when outside agencies were pursuing a man. That subject carjacked a vehicle from a woman; the man later carjacked a second vehicle as well. Both carjackings happened in the Four Points area at the intersection of FM 620 and FM 2222.
Davis said the subject had a shotgun and another weapon with him.
Officers were able to track the carjacked vehicle to an apartment complex in the 9500 block of FM 620, where they found the subject had kicked in a door to a residence. The subject attempted to leave, when officers asked him to stop.
Davis said the subject tried to flee, then turned and pointed his weapon at the officers. He fired a shot; the officers then returned fire, striking the subject. He was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.
None of the officers involved were injured, Davis said.
