AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Ongoing tropical rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry have prompted several cancellations for Independence Day events across Central Texas.
The City of Austin says the Star Spangled Fest activities at Auditorium Shores, including the Austin Symphony's annual fireworks show, have been canceled due to "saturated event grounds, current and ongoing weather conditions and increased safety concerns."
West of the Austin area, in the Texas Hill Country, overnight rains contributed to significant flash flooding. According to Doppler radar, some parts of Kerr County received more than a foot of rain. Officials believe at least 13 people have died due to the floodwaters.
Austin officials say they've been in contact with neighbors in the Hill Country and have been deploying resources to assist with flood response efforts, including units from Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department.
Earlier Friday, officials in Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Buda canceled their festivities and fireworks displays as well.
This tropical rain pattern is expected to continue into Saturday before rain chances fade from the forecast.
