AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The murder trial of an Austin woman accused of murdering a professional cyclist in an east Austin home last year got underway Wednesday morning, with attorneys offering their opening statements.

Kaitlin Armstrong is facing a first-degree murder charge for the death of Anna Moriah "Mo" Wilson. After a warrant was issued for Armstrong's arrest, she fled to Costa Rica, before being captured and brought back to Texas after 43 days on the run.

Last month, Armstrong attempted to escape custody after a medical appointment in South Austin. Despite her attempt to escape, corrections officers were able to catch up to her in about 10 minutes.

If convicted on the murder charge, Armstrong faces up to 99 years in prison.

Prosecutors laid out a timeline of events from the day Wilson died, including data gathered from surveillance video and phone records, including a vehicle matching the appearance of a Jeep formerly owned by Armstrong pulling up to the house on Maple Avenue where Wilson was staying.

Investigators said ballistic results matched a gun found at Armstrong's home with shell casings found where Wilson died.

Armstrong's defense attorneys argued that no surveillance video shows Armstrong at the scene of the shooting, even though several cameras were present.

Prosecutors called their first witness Wednesday afternoon. The trial is expected to last into mid-November.
