AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Organizers have officially called off this year’s Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Marcha de Justicia and Celebration, originally set for March 28 at the Terrazas Branch Library.
The cancellation follows recently disclosed allegations of sexual misconduct involving the late labor leader, including claims of inappropriate relationships with women and a minor.
The move follows similar cancellations across the state.
The decision was reached after a vote by local groups, including HABLA, LULAC, and PODER. While some community leaders noted that the allegations remain unproven, the move aligns with a national trend; the United Farm Workers (UFW) and several other cities have already distanced themselves from Cesar Chavez Day events this year.
Organizers emphasized that while Chavez’s impact on civil rights is undeniable, the movement's values must take priority over any single individual.
