AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after an apparent shooting in southeast Austin Monday night, according to authorities.
Austin Police say officers were called to the 2300 block of East Riverside Drive around 10:47 p.m. Monday. 911 callers reported a shooting had taken place in a parking lot.
When officers arrived, they found a man, identified as 28-year old Jose Salgado-Amador, with "obvious trauma" to his body. Officers used a tourniquet to stop his bleeding and performed CPR; Austin-Travis County EMS later transported Salgado-Amador to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe Salgado-Amador, who was working as a mechanic in the parking lot when he was confronted by a would-be robber. That suspect demanded property, then shot Salgado-Amador before fleeing the scene.
APD said the suspect is a Hispanic male, believed to be between 15 and 20 years of age, last seen wearing a gray hoodie and fled the scene in a light colored sedan. No other information was readily available.
It's the city's 27th homicide investigation of the year.
