AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police are working to investigate two homicides that happened early Sunday morning, as the city reaches a grim mark of 60 homicides for the year - a record high for the city in a single year.

The first one happened around 2:20 a.m. at the El Nocturno Night Club at 7601 North Lamar Boulevard, just south of the interchange with U.S. Highway 183.

Police say when they arrived, they found a man who had been shot several times. Witnesses told police there was an argument in the parking lot before shots were fired. The man died as a result of his injuries.

Within a few minutes, officers were called to a second scene where a stabbing was reported near West 6th Street and Nueces Street in downtown Austin.

When officers arrived at that scene, they found a man who had been stabbed multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The two homicides would bring the total for the year up to 60, which would be an all-time high since the Austin Police Department began keeping track of data roughly 60 years ago.
