Police investigating two shooting scenes on South Congress Monday night, 1 dead

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police are investigating two separate crime scenes on South Congress Avenue Monday night that resulted in one person being killed and two others being seriously injured.

Austin Police say one person was shot and killed in the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue, just south of William Cannon Drive. According to police, several people called 911 reporting gunshots around 8:45 p.m. at the SoCo Park Apartments. The callers said they saw a man staggering who appeared to have been hurt.


About a mile and a half north of that scene, Austin-Travis County EMS said two other victims were shot in the 5400 block of South Congress near Stassney Lane.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, those two victims - a man and a woman - were both transported to nearby hospitals with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The fatal shooting marks the 82nd homicide of the year in Austin.

Police say they aren't sure yet if the two scenes are related or not. They also don't have a suspect in custody in either case.
