AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- More than 18,000 Austin Energy customers were without power Wednesday morning in South Austin, as a number of outages affected the area.

The outages were generally south of U.S. Highway 290, north of William Cannon Drive, and between Interstate 35 and Menchaca Road.

Austin Energy said its crews were working to transfer power to other feeders to help restore power to some of the affected customers, as well as investigate the root cause of the outage. Nearly all of the affected customers were restored by 11 a.m., officials said, with crews continuing to investigate the cause of the outage.

Austin ISD said several of its campuses, including Crockett High School, the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, and the district Central Office were affected by the outage. School operations were expected to continue, with cafeteria staff planning to serve sack lunches at the affected campuses.
