ROUND ROCK, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a Round Rock hotel Monday morning.
According to Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks, a subject entered the Home2 Suites by Hilton in the 1000 block of West Louis Henna Boulevard just before 10 a.m. Monday. The man displayed a handgun, threatening guests and employees, and asking people if "they wanted to die."
Banks said officers responded to the scene. After locking down neighboring businesses, officers attempted to make entry to the hotel through a side entrance; however, the door was malfunctioning and would not open.
Officers then attempted to enter the hotel through the front lobby. As they entered the lobby, they were confronted by a subject with a gun. According to Banks, one officer discharged his firearm, taking down the subject.
The subject was pronounced deceased a short time later. No officers were injured, and there were no injuries to guests or employees.
Banks said an investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and will involve the Williamson County District Attorney's office, the Texas Rangers, the Williamson County Justice of the Peace, and the FBI.
Banks said the investigation will include the body-worn camera video from the officers, as well as any available surveillance video from the hotel and neighboring businesses.
