AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Among the organizations on the frontlines of dealing with the homelessness crisis in Central Texas, the Salvation Army Austin is looking to raise one million dollars with its second annual Day of Giving.

The all-day event Wednesday looks to raise funds for the organization to offer families in need 40,000 nights of safe sleep, warm meals, and comprehensive services to try and help end the cycle of poverty and homelessness.

Talk 1370, our Audacy sister stations, and other media outlets across Central Texas are taking to the airwaves Wednesday to share the message of how the Salvation Army is helping the Central Texas community, both at its Rathgeber Center for Families and the Austin Shelter for Women and Children.

The inaugural effort in 2021 saw more than $730,000 raised by the Central Texas community.

Wednesday's efforts are being helped by generous matching grants from John Paul DeJoria's Peace, Love & Happiness Foundation and the Moody Foundation - meaning your donation can do four times the work.

"We want to be able to help more families - whether it's job skills, whether it's educational, financial management - whatever we can do to help get these families back on their feet, our staff walks along with them," Major Lewis Reckline said.

With Wednesday's generous matching sponsors, a donation of just $25 can go to provide four nights of safe sleep and warm meals for an entire family.

Donations can be made online at SalvationArmyAustin.org, by calling 512-605-1410, or texting the word GIVE to 512-598-5979.
