AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Generous donors from all over Central Texas came together on Wednesday to help The Salvation Army raise nearly $850,000 in its third annual Day Of Giving.
Salvation Army volunteers and Austin media outlets joined forces in the effort, aimed at raising money to help fund TSA's programs that serve families, parents, and children who are experiencing homelessness.
Through more than 13 hours Wednesday, donors gave $847,661.
Each year, the Salvation Army provides more than 12,000 people in the Austin area with shelter, addiction rehabilitation, clothing, meals, holiday support, and direct client assistance. More than 1,000 unduplicated individuals are sheltered between the organization's two shelter facilities - the Austin Shelter for Women and Children, and the Rathgeber Center for Families.
Officials said every dollar raised during Wednesday's Day of Giving will stay right here in Central Texas, helping our neighbors in need.
If you missed out on making a donation on Wednesday, you can still make a contribution online at DayOfGivingAustin.org.
