Salvation Army's "Day Of Giving" raises more than $730,000 to support families in need

Salvation Army Day of Giving

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Generous donors from across Central Texas came together Thursday, raising more than $730,000 to benefit the Salvation Army Austin during its inaugural "Day Of Giving" event.

Media outlets from across Central Texas, including Talk 1370 and our Audacy sister stations, helped promote the event and the demand for the services that the Salvation Army provides to our neighbors in need across Travis and Williamson Counties - a situation compounded by the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to online donations, an army of volunteers manned a phone bank all day long at the Salvation Army's headquarters in East Austin.

Major Lewis Reckline said the goal for the day was $500,000 in donations. That amount is enough to provide more than 12,500 nights of beds and meals at the 212-bed Rathgeber Center for Families.

Even though the "Day Of Giving" event is over, the need for donations never ends. You can continue to donate online at SalvationArmyAustin.org.
