AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- An arrest has been made after San Marcos officials spent much of the day Wednesday investigating an early morning tip highlighting an online threat of violence against daycares made on a gaming platform.
The San Marcos Police Department said in a Facebook post that it received the tip Wednesday morning from Crime Stoppers after an anonymous tipster reported a "threat to invoke violence at a 'daycare in San Marco'" using the chat feature of an online gaming platform.
Officials said the threat did not specify a location, which led authorities to identify three cities across the country in an abundance of caution - San Marcos, Texas and San Marcos, California, along with San Marco, Florida.
Around 1:30 p.m., SMPD officials said a suspect had been identified and taken into custody in Jacksonville, Florida, and were beginning to stand down a number of armed officers that were increasing their patrols around area daycare facilities.
SMPD says they will continue to work with the FBI and other partner agencies to investigate the threat.
