Severe storms possible Thursday, tornado watch issued for parts of Austin metro

Severe outlook
NOAA / National Weather Service

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Severe storms could be possible Thursday afternoon into the evening rush hours, with much of the Austin metro under a tornado watch through the daytime hours Thursday.

A Tornado Watch is in effect until 6PM for Travis, Hays, Williamson, and Bastrop Counties...

Storms could develop along a cold front being pushed into the state through the day by a low-pressure system off to our north, combined with plenty of moisture from southerly winds.

Virtually all of Travis County, along with all of Williamson County and the northern half of Bastrop County are under a slight risk for severe storms Thursday. That's the second of five levels on the Storm Prediction Center's scale of severe weather - with the biggest threats being damaging winds and large hail. The rest of the area is under a marginal risk - a 1 out of 5.

Isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out, along with locally heavy rainfall.

Any storms that do develop are expected to push through the area by the evening hours, clearing our eastern counties after sunset.

Once the storms clear tonight, heat will dominate the weather story, with above normal temperatures expected through the Mother's Day weekend into early next week.
