AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after a rollover crash near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Thursday morning.

Westbound lanes of State Highway 71 were shut down for more than five hours Thursday as crews worked to investigate and clear the scene near Brandt Drive.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics pronounced one adult patient deceased at the scene just after 5 a.m.; the highway lanes were re-opened around 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning.

AUS officials said the delays just outside the airport were causing traffic backups at the airport's exit onto SH 71, causing backups into the upper level drop-off area for departing passengers.

Despite the crash being cleared, delays were continuing inside the airport campus well into the noon hour.

Austin Police say the crash involved a single vehicle, and the driver of that vehicle was the person killed in the crash.
