AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in northeast Austin early Friday morning that sent a suspect and an officer to the hospital.
Police say it happened just after midnight at the East Highway 290 Westbound Service Road between Cameron Road and Interstate 35.
A 911 caller reported that someone in another vehicle was shooting at them. Officers found the vehicle of the 911 caller, who was uninjured. The victim gave officers a description of the vehicle that was firing the shots; officers located and pulled that vehicle over.
As the officers exited their vehicle, the suspect immediately began firing at them. The officers returned fire, striking the suspect.
One of the officers sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The officer and the suspect are both being treated at a local hospital.
Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon called the dash camera video of the incident "chilling."
Both officers will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
