Widespread winter precipitation including snow, sleet, and graupel began moving through the area after sunset Monday night and increasing through the overnight hours.
All Central Texas school districts have canceled classes for Tuesday, along with the area's colleges and universities. Many government offices will also remain closed.
H-E-B said Monday afternoon it would delay opening its stores across the area until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, weather permitting. CapMetro was also suspending service Monday night, with limited service expected to resume at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport says it is open and flights are operating normally; however, both of Houston's major airports are closed, which is having some domino effects on neighboring airports. Officials say you should check your flight status before leaving for the airport.
Clouds will clear late this afternoon, pushing us to a high in the upper 30s to near 40. The warmth won't be long-lived, though, with the coldest night of this stretch still ahead - with morning lows Wednesday morning expected to fall into the lower 20s and teens across the area. Some travel impacts could be possible Wednesday morning as leftover moisture on area roadways re-freezes overnight.
A warming trend will begin Wednesday, with highs reaching into the upper 60s to near 70 by the weekend.
