AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The son of a well-known Austin jeweler who conspired to have his parents killed in a 2018 murder-for-hire plot, and a suspect in the deadly shooting both entered a guilty plea in the case on Wednesday.
22-year old Nicholas Shaughnessy and 23-year old Arieon Smith were both sentenced to 35 years in prison for their roles in the plot, in which Shaughnessy sought to have both of his parents killed. Corey Shaughnessy survived the attack, in which someone entered the family's home after a security alarm was remotely deactivated.
The elder Shaughnessy owned Gallerie Jewelers in Central Austin; according to prosecutors, his son was the sole beneficiary of a $2 million life insurance policy.
Neither will be eligible for parole for almost 20 years.
Shaughnessy and his now ex-wife, Jaclyn Edison, were both charged in the plot. Edison's charges are still pending.
