AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The legal case surrounding a deadly mass shooting on downtown Austin's Sixth Street last summer will move forward Tuesday morning, with the alleged shooter scheduled to appear in court for his first hearing.

De'ondre White, now 20, faces one murder charge and 14 counts of aggravated assault, with prosecutors alleging he fired a gun multiple times into a crowd in June 2021. That shooting resulted in the death of 25-year old Douglas Kantor, along with injuries to 14 others.

White is being held in the Travis County jail on a $1 million bond.

According to arrest affidavits, witnesses told police that multiple guns were pulled after two groups "walked past each other". Police found a total of eight shell casings, all of which appeared to have been fired from the same gun.

Two juvenile suspects originally detained in the case were released - a development that Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said at the time reflected the "best interests" of the investigation. The DA's office has said no final decision has been made on charging any other individuals in connection with the shooting.

Members of the Kantor family have criticized the DA's handling of the case, including the release of the two juveniles. "Everybody keeps telling us it's for the best," said Larry Lightner, the uncle of Douglas Kantor. Lightner said then 17-year old Jeremiah Tabb, who had been facing an aggravated assault charge, was in possession of the weapon involved in the shooting. "He was trying to sell [the weapon] on social media... and that's how the detectives recovered it."

The hearing is expected to get underway at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Kantor family is also expected to make comments following the hearing.
