Talk 1370, Audacy Austin stations partnering with Salvation Army for a "Day Of Giving"

Salvation Army Day Of Giving

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Talk 1370, along with our Audacy sister stations and other media outlets across Central Texas, are teaming up with The Salvation Army to help raise money for our neighbors in need.

The Salvation Army's Day Of Giving is set for this Thursday, July 8. The goal is to raise more than $500,000 - an amount that can provide 12,500 nights of safe sleep and warm meals for men, women, and children across Travis and Williamson Counties.

Throughout the day on Thursday, you'll be hearing stories of how the Salvation Army helps those in need across Central Texas regain their self-sufficiency.

Major Lewis Reckline, area commander for the Salvation Army, said the programs that the Salvation Army offers aim to give people a hand up, not necessarily just a hand out. "Each family is dealt with individually," Reckline said. "Our counselors sit down with these families when they come in, and assess their situation, to see where they need to go, what steps need to be taken. It could be a GED, it could be special job skills training; we walk with them."

During the Day Of Giving, volunteers will be taking donations by phone, in addition to text and online donations, from 4:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. John Paul DeJoria and JP's Peace, Love, and Happiness Family Foundation have generously gifted $250,000 in matching funds towards the effort.

Donations can be made online at SalvationArmyAustin.org, by texting the word "GIVE" to 512-598-5979, or by calling 512-605-1410. Volunteer shifts are also available at the phone bank; you can find more details online here.
