AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- More than 2,600 Austin-based employees of Tesla will be affected by the company's recently announced layoffs, according to a state filing.
Tesla announced layoffs affecting more than 10% of its global workforce earlier this month. Now, a WARN notice sent to the Texas Workforce Commission on Monday indicates 2,688 of those jobs will come from the company's Austin Gigafactory.
The letter indicates those layoffs are expected to begin June 14.
As of last year, nearly 23,000 employees worked at the sprawling facility in eastern Travis County.
Tuesday afternoon, Tesla said its first-quarter net income dropped 55%, reporting a net income of $1.13 billion compared to $2.51 billion a year ago.
Tesla stock has been under pressure recently, after the company reported a nearly double-digit sales decline in the first three months of 2024.
