AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Days after a field of 46 applicants was narrowed down to seven, City of Austin officials say they've narrowed the search for Austin's next police chief down to three finalists.
Interim Police Chief Joseph Chacon, along with current Dallas Police assistant chief Avery Moore and Los Angeles Police deputy chief Emada E. Tingirides are the three finalists City Manager Spencer Cronk has identified.
“I am confident these finalists will help the City of Austin cultivate relationships with our community, accomplish the City Council’s goals, and continue the progress of reimagining public safety in Austin,” said Cronk.
The city will hold opportunities to meet the top finalists and hear from them at the Palmer Events Center next Wednesday and Thursday, August 18 and 19, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The events will also be broadcast live on the city's cable channel and streaming outlets.
Cronk says he hopes to select a new chief of police by the end of September.
