AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Thursday marks the voter registration deadline for the May 1 elections across the state of Texas.

"Exercising your right to vote and making your voice heard is a fundamental part of our democracy," Texas Secretary of State Ruth Hughs said in a statement. "I encourage all eligible Texans who have not already done so to register to vote by April 1st so that they can actively participate in shaping the future of Texas."

You can check the status of your voter registration online at VoteTexas.gov. Travis County residents can also visit VoteTravis.com.

City of Austin residents will vote on a number of charter amendments, including whether to reinstate the city's public camping ban, along with a number of potential changes to the structure of city government, including consideration of changing the city to a "strong mayor" form of government.
