AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Travis County District Attorney José Garza says his office is opening a criminal investigation into the "actions or inaction" of any state leaders, agencies, or other entities that may hold some responsibility.
"Our office will be conducting an investigation into the events that lead [sic] to last week’s crisis and we will everything [sic] we can to hold powerful actors accountable whose action, or inaction, may have led to this suffering," Garza wrote on Twitter late Tuesday.
The investigation will be handled by the office's public integrity and complex crimes unit.
"Lives were lost, homes were lost, and it will take weeks, months, and in some cases years for people to be made whole again," Garza wrote. "We will not forget the horror our community experienced."
The investigation comes as lawmakers are scheduled to hold hearings on the winter storm later this week, and just as five ERCOT board members announced their resignations Tuesday afternoon.
