Virtual public forum to focus on downtown Austin shootings, rise in violence

Downtown Austin

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Public safety in Downtown Austin will be under the spotlight Monday morning in a virtual public forum aimed at easing concerns over recent shootings and an uptick in violent crime.

Austin City Council member Kathie Tovo and the Downtown Austin Alliance are hosting the forum. It comes after a number of recent shootings in the downtown area, particularly in the Sixth Street Entertainment District.

Those participating in the forum include Austin Police interim chief Joseph Chacon, Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza, and County Attorney Delia Garza.

They will discuss systems and procedures, interagency communication and coordination, and tools, resources, and alternatives that they use to help ensure public safety downtown.

The virtual forum will be held via Zoom, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday morning. You can watch it online here.
