AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday the upcoming end of his statewide order requiring face coverings, but you'll still need to mask up at a number of places across Central Texas for various reasons.
Travel: Those traveling through Austin-Bergstrom International Airport or using public transit services such as Capital Metro will still be required to wear a mask, based on federal rules.
Federal Buildings: One of the executive orders issued by President Biden on his first day in office calls on anyone present at federal buildings or federal lands to wear a face covering.
Schools: The Texas Education Agency says it expects to release updated guidance in relation to the governor's order next week. Many area school districts have said they will continue with current practices, pending further guidance from TEA.
Grocery Stores: H-E-B and Randall's stores will continue to require employees and vendors to wear face coverings, but will only encourage - not require - customers to do so.
Other Businesses: A number of other Austin-area businesses have said they'll continue to require customers to wear masks. Under Abbott's new orders, businesses can continue to set requirements for their customers as they see fit.
P. Terry's, Waterloo Records, Wheatsville Co-op, Via 313, Alamo Drafthouse, and the Paramount Theatre were among the businesses that took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, saying they would continue to require customers to wear masks.
