WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Williamson County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday morning to authorize the filing of a lawsuit against the City of Austin over the city's proposed purchase of a northwest Austin hotel.
The Austin City Council recently authorized the purchase of the former Candlewood Suites property at 10811 Pecan Park Boulevard, for a purchase price in excess of $9 million.
Over the past year, Council has discussed using the property as permanent supportive housing for those experiencing homelessness, and more recently as a domestic violence shelter.
Nearby residents and business owners have opposed the city's plan, saying that city efforts to operate the property as a shelter would destroy their neighborhood.
According to a posted agenda, the lawsuit aims to enjoin and restrain the City of Austin from operating and using the property for temporary or permanent housing of individuals.
