AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Despite temperatures warming into the 60s Saturday afternoon, a jolting blast of arctic air continues on its march towards Central Texas - with temperatures expected to fall below freezing in just hours.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for the entire Austin metro area beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday through Noon on Monday...

The arctic front is on track to reach Austin by late Saturday night, sending temperatures plummeting by around 10 p.m., down to the mid to upper 20s by Sunday morning.

Cold, arctic air will continue to filter in through the day on Sunday, with temperatures only reaching slightly above freezing.

Late Sunday, forecasts call for an increasing chance of light wintry precipitation in the form of freezing rain, continuing through Sunday morning. Accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are possible, which could create travel problems leading into the Monday morning commute.

Any impacts from freezing rain or drizzle should be limited to travel, and not be widespread enough to cause issues with trees or power lines. Elevated bridges and overpasses will be the largest area of concern, with roadways and ground surfaces not expected to be impacted.

TxDOT crews were continuing their efforts to prepare area roadways ahead of the front's arrival; both state and city crews will be on standby to try to keep roadways passable during wintry weather.

Temperatures Monday morning are expected to fall into the lower 20s, but high temperatures on Monday are likely not going to rise above the freezing mark. Bitter cold is expected Monday night into Tuesday, and Tuesday night into Wednesday, with temperatures falling into the lower teens.

The wintry weather has prompted organizers to cancel Monday's planned Martin Luther King Jr. Community March. The Community Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27, at the campus of Huston-Tillotson University.
